Pontiac Repair: Alarm, montana minivan, pontiac transport

We own a 1998 Pontiac Transport Montana Minivan.
The alarm is driving us nuts. There appears to be no way to lock the van without arming the alarm.
The alarm goes off way to easy, loud noises, cold weather or sometimes for reasons we can't figure out. The damn thing will give five beeps of the horn with the lights flashing and it arms just by locking the doors. We would like to be able to disconnect the alarm so we can lock the van with the alarm turned off. Is there a way I can disable the alarm for good? Thanks!

This does not sound like the factory alarm system. It sounds like an aftermarket add on alarm system. Did you have an alarm system installed?
The factory alarm will only beep the horn once, after you push the lock button on the remote twice. If this is not the way yours works, it is not a factory system and I dont know how it might be hooked up, so I cant tell you how to turn it off.
To turn off the factory alarm, only push the lock button once.
