Pontiac Repair: changing heater core, heater hoses, heater core

Question
Hi Harold,
I've got a 1995 6cyl w/air auto Grand Am. The heater core let go. What's the best way for me to get at it and replace it?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
First you need to remove the 2 heater hoses at the firewall. It is easier to do in from under the car if you can. Also you may have 2 bolts that need to be removed from the firewall right next to the heater hoses. Once you get the hoses and bolts out, you have to remove the hush panels from under the dash on both sides. Then remove the center air duct. next you need to remove the lower heater case. It will have 3 or 4 screws on each side and a couple up close to the firewall that are kind of hard to get to. You cant see them, you will just have to feel around until you find them. Once you get that off, the heater core is right there. Unscrew the straps and remove it.
