Question
i would like to replace the a/c evaporator [leaking] on my car. how do you get to it? what needs to be removed? ect. can't find info on this. should the dryer be replaced too? thanks for your help. karl.

Answer
Typically a 964/993 Evaporator R&R is an 11+ job. Plus, you have to recover the refrigerant if any is left in the system, replace the drier and expansion valve, evacuate, recharge with refrigerant, test for leaks and do a performance check.

The Porsche Shop manual covers some of the evaporator box removal, I recall probably section 87, but few details and not step by step.
Unlike the earlier 911's (pre 964) where you would work in the front trunk and under the RH floor board, with the 964/993 you are under the car, in the trunk and in the cockpit.  The most annoying task is pulling the fuel tank.

However, you are in luck! (and I'm going to tip my hat to "TJ" at p-car.com because he is saving my fingers from duplicating some of the details of the procedure; thank you TJ).

I suggest you follow this hyperlink to see what TJ has already published on the net. If you get stuck drop me a line.

Here is the link to the procedure;
