Porsche Repair: 1987 924s -- Oil pressure idiot light always on., oil pressure guage, oil pressure switch

The Oil pressure idiot light is always on, but the oil pressure guage shows that the oil pressure is good.  Any ideas what might be causing the light to stay on?

Hi Karl,

It would be fairly easy to see if I could lay my hands on a 924 wiring diagram, but alas...I don't have one.  I've looked at the '85-era 944 diagram and it seems to show an oil pressure switch perfoming the duties of both turning the idiot light on at x pressure and supplying the gauge with actual pressure info.  I've never actually seen a switch that could do both.  In fact the 924 listing for the pressure switch simply describes it as a warning light feed.  So...my best guess is:

You have a switch for the warning light and an oil pressure sender for the gauge.  The switch is probably tired and dead.
