Porsche Repair: boxter covertible top, convertible tops, latch

Question
My 99 boxter has a latch you open to put down the top, and the windows come down a little before the top goes down, however when I lift the latch, the windows do not go down and the top will not go down. The parking brake is on, and the car is on so I am not sure why it will not go down. My battery recently was dead and had to be replaced, and the top was working before that happened.

Answer
Hi Rod,

Automatic opening convertible tops are way out of my area of expertise, so I'll just start with the basics.  I assume the latch motion closes a switch and activates a "top opening" relay.  I'm sure there is an "automatic top" fuse which allows power into this circuit.  Both of these relatively easy to check items are the first places to look.

Write back to me using the follow-up feature of All-experts with what you find.  I'm curious to learn a bit here.  Maybe if I can convince my wife I have learned how to open and close the top on a Boxster, she'll get me one for Xmas!
