Porsche Repair: my 85 944 Wont start, battery cables, pressure fuel

Question
Hi Dave,
I had to replace the fuel hose at the tank.  I put 4 gals of fuel in and it will not start.  I felt a couple of 'burps', as if it wanted to fire, but then nothing.  I hope you can help me.
Thanks, Steve

Answer
Steve, that's sounds exasperating....

I know of no secret procedure to ensure the engine will start...it should fire up just like before,

If you haven't already done so, let's make sure the fuel is reaching the fuel rail...remove the end cap at the rail with your wrench AFTER you  put some rags under that area.  You want to catch any residual fuel AND, more importantly, the sealing ball under the cap.  Run a temporary line from the open end to a container and turn the key on till you see some high pressure fuel from your temporary hose.  If it takes awhile, rest the starter during the process.  If it takes awhile, this would be the cause of the no-start...not enough fuel and too much air at the injectors.

Put everything back together and it'll start.

If you do the test and find plenty of fuel in the rail very quickly, the no-start has turned into an electrical problem...or...believe it or not "an engine is already flooded problem.  Let the engine sit awhile to ensure its not flooded...remove the battery cables for a few minutes to reset the computer...maybe the computer thinks the engine is flooded but its not.

Let me know what you find.
