RV Repair: Atwood water heater, electric water heater, pilot type

Question
QUESTION: We have a 2008 Prowler with Atwood 10gallon propane/electric water heater. It overheats the water and then goes into lockdown. Could it be the thermostat causing this or is there a temperature setting on the water heater? Thanks for your help.

ANSWER: Is the tank going into lockdown during propane or electric operation?  If during both, it is probably the thermostat.  IF it is one or the other, check that type of heating.  Look for electrical problems if lockdown occurs during electric heat up.  Look for problems with gas system if lockdown occurs during propane.  Try adjusting thermostat to a lower setting and see if this still happens.

QUESTION: It's going into lockdown in both the electric and gas. I haven't found where I could lower the temperature on the thermostat. Do you know where that might possibly be located? Thanks.

Answer
sounds like a problem with thermostat, or with a thermal couple.  The adjustment for temp should be combined with gas valve.  Either a lever on top that slides back and forth, or know on front of it.
