RV Repair: 2000 Coachman Catalina Travel Trailer, coachman catalina travel trailer, gfc

Question
Set up my 30 ft travel trailer yesterday, plugged it into regular electric outlet at my home that I have used for this purpose many times in the past.

None of the lights or outlets in the slide are working. The GFC at the kitchen counter is not reseting. All other electric seems to be working, fridge, micowave, TV and all outlets in the main portion of the trailer. Going to change the GFC.

Is the entire electric in the slide connected to the GFC at the counter?

Should changing the GFC outlet solve the problem?

Answer
It is possible that all the outlets are connected to this GFC.  Will the GFC reset when you unplug the RV from the house?  IF it will reset with power disconnected, you may have a real problem.

Is it possible you got water in an outlet or on wiring?  Could a mouse have chewed a wire and caused a short?  Is something plugged into an outlet that may cause a short?

GFC's do go bad, but usually with a reason.  As often as a camper is used, the outlet should not be worn out.  By changing it you may find the same occurance if there is a reason for the trip.

Here is what I would try:

1.  unplug the RV from the house.  Then try to reset the GFC.  If it resets.  Re plug in the RV to the house.  If it won't they try replacing the GFC.  If it trips again......

2.  turn off breakers in the main control.  Reset the GFC and turn on breakers one by one until you find the one that trips the circuit.  Then track down the circuit until you find the problem.
