I have a standard travel trailer (2001 model)that has a 30amp shore line, breaker box and 45amp 12v converter.
I just bought a Coleman Powermate 2000w (4000w surge) inverter and 2 large 12v deep cycle batteries. They are hooked up to the inverter only. The trailer battery is seperate and hooked to the converter.
When I plug in the shore line to the inverter, (all the breakers are off, including the master, )I get warning tones on the inverter and it shuts down. I know I cant run the AC off the inverter. I leave that breaker off. I just want to have some 120V ac available if i'm boondocking. I have tried grounding and ungrounding the inverter to the frame and it doesnt make any difference.
If I use the inverter by it'self it works great. It runs hot plates, TV's, hair dryers etc. It's just when I plug in the shore line of the camper that I have a problem. I have all the wires hooked up correctly (polarity = black to gold, white to silver)
Any ideas?

This is way out of my area of expertise byt I will ventire a guess.
I guess my first question would be why are you plugging shore power into the inverter, why don't you just plug it into the outlets on the generator.
I think you are asking the inverter to do two things at once opposed to each other.

Answer
Sorry about that, I misunderstood what you had and what you were trying to do with it.
The only experiences I have are with generators or ac outlets providing power and converters. You might want to call the manufacturer, most have a tech line, they should be able to help you out.
