RV Repair: Slide will not go out. Sounds like motor is skipping on drive gear, motor shaft, losing faith

I have 2007 Sunnybrook Bristol Bay fifth wheel. My dealer replaced the slide motor and it still will not go back out. It sounds like the motor is spinning on the gear. I did not check it before I brought it home. If I can repair it at home I would. I am losing faith in my dealer.

I am not sure since I am not there to diagnose this.  But I am wondering if the motor should be shimmed.  A shim may push the gears closer together.  

May be a bad motor gear or a tooth.  Possible a key-way between the gear and the motor shaft.  

I guess I would, and you need to access the motor and watch it while someone else operates the switch.
