RV Repair: Roof repair, jayco dealer, rhino liner

Question
Hello, I have a 1999 Jayco Quest 294 BH. It's normally kept under cover but the last year it's been out in the open. Anyway there is a roof leak which I have fixed but I have found rot in the ceiling. It looks like a simple fix, simply replace the 4x8 sheet of luan or whatever that thin paneling is. It looks like a piece of luan with a white coating glued to it. The Jayco dealer acted like it was a realy big deal to try and order a piece of this stuff. All I need is this piece of this wood, a couple of trim pieces and probably something to use for crown molding to finish it out. Where can I get these parts? Thanks

Answer
Hello Jay

You think like I do.  Who needs the dealer when we have Home Depot, Lowes or the like.  It is the white coating that may be hard to find.  I dont know your layout inside your camper, or where the rot is exactly.  But it may be possible to buy a piece of paneling that can get close in appearance.  You can also try to paint the whole ceiling in 'popcorn' or something similar.  This will bring the appearance of the repair in to the rest of the ceiling.

Dont forget you need to find the source of the leak.  Caulk, or some other sealant should work here.  I suggested Rhino Liner to a person once.  That is the bedliner coating for pick ups.  It is strong, you can paint it (possibly) to match, and it is durable.  You can buy a do-it-yourself version of this stuff at Home Depot in the paint section.

Hope this helps.
