RV Repair: seat belts, seat belts, conversion van

Question
Hello, I would like to install seatbelts on an old RV- there is a bed and I am interested in attaching seat belts to the floor that could come up behind the bed that you sit on to use as secure belts- do you have any ideas what to use to bolt them to the floor/thru the floor or any suggestions  thanks nigel

Answer
Hello

seat belts being a safety thing, I have to make it clear that my information is simply suggestions and no way guarantee the lives of anyone who uses seatbelts installed per my suggestions.

That said; seat belts are usually bolted to a welded nut, attached to the floor at a solid location.  'Solid' can be a very strong area of metal in the floor, in a support, through a frame area, reinforced spots.  If you can weld, this is a plus.

I would try to put a hole in the frame for the bolt to go through.  If not an option, then you need to find a nice strong place to drill through, reinforce the area with more metal and then weld on a bolt.  You can probably get the belts from a junk conversion van in the junk yard.  You can also see how they bolted them in.  Maybe even cut out the 'nut' they used in the van to use on your RV.

Good luck, this should be an easy thing if you can weld.
