RV Repair: Commpressor cycles when hot (AC on 2001 aljo trailer), amp meter, ac compressor

Question
the AC compressor runs fine while at night. At about 9 am the compressor kicks off. 30 -40 minutes later it will come on for 5-8 minuntes and then will kick off. At about 10 pm it begins to run normal again. Amp meter shows 16 amps under normal ops. and compressor shuts down at around 23amps. Whats going on? Breaker never trips

Answer
Jeff, I am guessing this is a Dometic ac. I think the first thing I would look at is whether there is refrigerated air getting into the intake side. You can check this by feeling with your hand. Next if you smoke in the coach I would check to see that the air can flow through the condenser enough. Plus when it is shutting down check the voltage at that time to see that there is a good 110 volts getting to the air. If it had a leak it would not blow cold air. So watch it and check it when it does shut down to see that nothing is frozen up and the air flow is correct and no leaks from one side to the other. If it continues to shut down you may want to replace the thermal overload that is on top of the compressor. I hope this helps, Bill
