RV Repair: rv water heater, steve anderson, water heater

Question
Hi Bill, I have Suburban sw6d water heater. When you hit the button on the control panel, the "pilot out" light comes on, pauses, and lights, just like it should. Five or so minutes later it shuts down, no light on the c.p. no hot water, nothing, an hour or so later you can hit the switch and do the same thing with the same results, (note...during the black out there is power at the switch on the c.p. but no "pilot out" light when you turn it on)Any ideas? Steve Anderson

Answer
Steve, First I need to know if the light comes back on when it shuts down. If so then it is telling you it failed. The way it works is like this. The light comes on and when it is lit and working the light stays off. When it fails it comes back on to tell you so. If it is shutting down and the light stays off I would be looking at the T-Stat. It is located outside and under the black box in the left corner of the water heater. Because the light stays off (if it does) means that it is still under the controls and as far as it is concerned everything is correct. Does this make any sense to you. I hope this helps, Bill
