RV Repair: Trailer repair, custom paint job, hail storm

Question
Hi Bill,

I have looked at many of your answers and am wondering if you can point me in a direction.

Last year my wife and I bought a "fixer upper" trailer that is about 30 years old. We did it knowing that it would need repair and rework and I am in the process of doing just that. My question is that the unit has some dry rot due to past water issues that have been sealed up but it still needs to be repaired properly. I have been working from the inside, removing paneling and bad insulation, repairing walls and then working my way back and having a blast doing it! Knowing that we want to redo the paneling, cabinets, wiring and possible plumbing is this the way to go or would I be better off taking the skin off and working from outside in. The other thing is that the skin has been through a hail storm and we are thinking maybe next year taking it off and redoing it and then sending it out for a custom paint job. Any suggestions or books that might guide me in this would be appreciated since this is a "learn as you go" project.

Thanks so much,
Steve

Answer
Steve, If you plan on replacing the exterior then I would say to you to remove it and make things easier for you during the rebuild. When you go to replace the metal if that is what it is you can choose a color and it will come to you that way. If it is filon then you will have a couple of color choices and the rest is just graphics. I hope this helps, Bill P.S. I don't know of any books but if you have specific questions and need answers you can e mail me at hunter42558@sbcglobal.net and I will help you all I can.
