RV Repair: Mushy Roof, metal roof, cutaway

I have a 1991 Chevy Cutaway Class C Motorhome.  The roof on drivers side front of RV is mushy.  What material are the roofs made out of?  Can I cut the piece out and replace it with new material?
I'm lost please help!!!!!

Guy, They make the roofs out of several different things. It is possible to replace the damaged section, although you will have to open up the top. This is where you will need to know what you are doing to an extent. If you have a metal roof you will want to roll it back. If it is rubber you will want to cut out the section and replace it with new. Open up more than you think you will need to so you can try and get it at a joint. This will make things easier.
