RV Repair: onan gen question, propane generator, nuwa hitchhiker

Hello I have a 1995 Nuwa Hitchhiker 5th Wheel with a Onan 4000w propane generator and it worked fine, until I changed the tanks and now it wont start, I had just purchased the trailer when I changed the tanks because they were expired, but it sounds like it is starving for propane, Ill play with the govenor a bit and it will hardly run wont go to full RPM, but most of the time it just turns over and over... does it take special propane I can not find a manual or anything else, do you have any suggestions, thanks Jim

Jim, It is hard to say just what is going on with it. The first thing is when you had the bottles filled did you watch them fill them up? It is really very important that you watch when they fill your tanks because they can over fill them and when they do you will get liquid to the regulator and that will damage it. I think I would get a reading of your lp pressure and make sure it is 11 to 11 1/2 water column inches. This is what you need to run the lp appliances in the coach. Also make sure that you have the summer/ winter switch in the right place. After that if it is running but won't run good then it may be time for an oil and spark plug change. If none of this helps then I recommend taking it to a shop that is qualified in working on them. Thanks, Bill
