RV Repair: RV roof leaking., rubber roofs, rv roof

Question
QUESTION: I have an RV that is parked outside in storage and is leaking somewhere, roof, sides, I don't know. The way it is parked, (the back end passenger side is the lowest point, all water is running here). I cannot determine where it is leaking at. How do I find out?  Could it be the roof needs resurfaced? I would do any repairs myself. Any ideas or thoughts.

ANSWER: Aaron, What kind of roof does it have? Is it rubber, metal, or even seamed metal, or fiberglass? There are several types of roofs out there and with knowing which kind I can better tell you what to do. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: It is a rubber roof. I have a feeling that it leaking between the inner wall and outer wall. What is the best way to repair this. No visible holes, but I realize it would not take much.

Answer
Aaron, If this roof is rounded on the sides or even square the only place to seal the sides is at the gutter rail. Use a tube of Dicor or Carlisle as that is the only thing you should use from a tube on the roof. Make sure you can see where the water starts coming in from to be sure it isn't coming from a window as they will leak too. Check the ac and see that it is tight because they are sandwiched to the roof and they can leak after a couple years when they loosen up some. Rubber roofs have a 10 year warranty and they usually last that long at least. If you want to resurface the roof the only product that I would use is Liquid Roof. It is pretty costly as 1 gallon will do 42 sq. ft and that works out to about a gallon every 5 feet of roof figuring linear footage. I mean to say if the roof is 40 ft. long it will take 8 gallons to do the complete roof and it is around $100.00 a gallon give or take some. I hope this helps, Bill
