RV Repair: electrical issue 2000 fleetwood mallard travel trailer, mallard travel trailer, fleetwood mallard travel trailer

Question
QUESTION: I recently purchased fleetwood, Mallard T.T. 2000, After plugging in to my home, I found out after getting shocked by the door handle that i have ground issue. I have brought it to two professional places at this point. the first ran the systems for me and told me all was GOOD! than i got shocked. the second seemed to have fixed the ground issue by tightening some screws but i get my rv back and now the kitchen hood fan and light dont work and the tank sensor, weird because the pump still runs... The guys who worked on it denied it had anything to do with what they did....and wont look at it again. It was working when i turned it over to them...but it wasnt the night i picked it up from them so....now im not sure what to do or what is going on. All the fuses are fine, nothing was burnt out..i would appreciate your advice about what i can do next and weather you think something went wrong when they were checking for the ground problem....thanks in advance. Bella

ANSWER: You had a short.  Now you have no ground to these items.  Or no power.  when they fixed the short, possibly by accident, they either disconnected your short or ground.

Was this shock coming from the AC power but not the DC power?  If so, the white and the bare are both not supposed to have current.  The black was touching the frame of the RV, or maybe a screw was piercing the insulation.  Or possibly the black and ground were touching in an outlet box or some where else.

If you still had the short, I would suggest using a meter and trying to get a voltage reading off the door handle.  Then start turning off breakers until the short went away.  Then you would have known what circuit you were dealing with.

Now, I would assume the circuits that don't work are the culpret.  Is that tank sensor on the same circuit as the fan and light?  Check for power at the fan/light.  If none, check for power from the source that supplies this.  Maybe a GFCI, or maybe a burned up outlet.

QUESTION: hi again. thanks for your help last time I was never able to isolate and find the short and neither have both RV places... my camper door and shell is still showing voltage on voltage tester but only at my house when plugged into a regular 15 outlet??  so... it wasn't fixed, as i had thought and as i had been told... Now when plugged into 30 outlet at the RV repair shop we are not getting a reading off voltage tester on door handle at all. Only at my house and off my generator which makes no sense if this is a strictly a house issue... I have tested house outlet and extension cord and all are O.K. according to plug in tester.Rv repair guy managed to wire kitchen appliances to work off of wiring behind refrig instead of going through all the wires back to the box. This all started after I was originally shocked after I was plugged into an outlet in my barn that wasn't grounded correctly, this is how i ended up with a voltage tester so i wouldn't get shocked again. Why the heck is it not going off at RV place and only at my house and off my generator...All the outlets in the RV are checking out OK, no burned fuses, all this is so inconsistent. I'm just thinking about using camper as is and putting a ground attached to the frame at this point. If you have any other ideas for me id appreciate it thanks Bella

Answer
I figure the RV place has the ability to really ground the RV.  Your house does not.  You should not plug into a 15 amp at house.  Need at least 20 amp if not using the AC.  If using AC then you need 30 amp.  Maybe you are over working the 15 amp circuit.  More grounds never hurt.
