RV Repair: Exterior rv door, fiberglass sheet, aluminum frame

Question
QUESTION: My travel trailer has an exterior door with some rot in the bottom and the bottom plate is loose.  I want to take the door off the camper and replace the rotted wood on the inside  and reinstall.  The door has a fiberglass sheet top and bottom held together by an aluminum frame and the bottom part of the frame is falling off because the wood is rotted and the screws fell out.  I want to take the door off and apart just enough to replace the rot and put it back on the camper.  Can you tell me what the pitfalls are before I take it apart.

ANSWER: Bob, This is pretty straight forward and the only thing you want to look out for is that you get the new wood the same size as the old wood. That means the width as well as the length. If done right this is a good way to fix the door. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: THankyou Bill can you suggest the steps u would take ie should i take one side of the door skin completely off and if so which one.  Outside or inside I;m concerned about getting it back together square.

Answer
Bob, You won't have to pull either side completely off as there is usually only a frame around the outside of the door. The side with the lock should even be metal or is in most doors. Remember the IMPORTANT thing is to get the same dimensions and length of wood to go back in. Thanks, Bill
