RV Repair: interior roof panel replacement on c class, liquid coating, class question

Question
QUESTION: hello bill i just purchased a 1999 c class coachmen and the very first roof panel needs to be replaced.it had a leak in the very front were the curve starts down on the corner and i am not to sure how to remove this panel dont see any nail or screws other then the trim strips. how do i get this panel down and what do i need to put the new one up.already bought replacement panel and need some advice also how to you make the some what sharp curve in the very front of the foof towards the front window. thanks for any help ed.

ANSWER: Hello Edward, First thing you might want to do is to remove the metal skin from the outside in the front. Remember that they install it from the top to the bottom. Pull the corner mouldings and get it open. Then you should be able to see that they screwed it in from the front and you should remove it the same way. Once it is off you will be able to see how they installed it to begin with. As for the making a sharp bend well they usually cut the back side part way through in several spots in order for the panel to bend the way they want it to. Always remember that there was something that caused the trouble and you need to address that or it will reoccur

QUESTION: thanks for the reply bill the cab over part is fiberglass and looks to be all one peice. i think the leak was comming from the mld chanel that cross the roof in the very front were the fiberglass meets the rubber roof skin there was no cap in this channel and all the screws were exposed. i am going to reseal all the chanels and vents and then coat the roof with a liquid coating. the leak wasent very large but did rot about 6 inches of the ceiling panel.any info greatley appreciated thanks ed howie

Answer
When you decide to reseal the roof I highly recommend using Liquid Roof by Pro Guard. This is the only product out that has a warranty. It is a little harder to put on but when done right it will stay and not leak on you. Try to remember that cleaning and prep is the MOST IMPORTANT part of applying it. This product has a catalyst you add and should be used as soon as possible as it will not last over a week or so if you store it in the refrigerator
