RV Repair: eletrical, pace arrow 33, electrical trouble

Question
Ihave a 1984 pace arrow 33 ft motor home. our last trip out last year we were plugged into 110 and somebody touched my rv and got shocked. I had an electric fence tester with me and any metal on my rv was hot. unplugged and started generator and it was running badly and then i lost all power inside that is run off 110 or generator, what battery runs still works. have not blown a circuit that i can tell. what about shutting down all circuits and plugging rv in and turning on 1 at a time to see if appliance or outlet has a problem. do not want to kill anybody but not really sure where to start here.thank you in advance for your advice. Have also heard the term power inverter or diverter that someone said may be problem, any way to check that if there is such a thing

Answer
Trying to trace down electrical trouble such as what you have can be hard, but if you still have battery power to the coach side I would say that your converter is still functioning because that is what charges the battery unless you have been starting the motor which charges the battery as well. You said that you are generator equipped and that would give me the feelings that there has to be a Todd (or transfer) switch that has gone bad. If you have to plug your power cord in to a plug located in the coach to have power with the generator then there is no switch and somewhere the neutral wire could be touching somewhere. In alot of circumstances if you have a water heater that has 110 as well as L.P. sources to heat the water it is the 110 heating element that has gone bad and it is on and transferring the electricity through the water and as the heater is grounded to the frame you feel a shock when you touch the outside. You can turn the power back on ,if you can get any power and turn on the breakers one at a time and skin test after each circuit is turned back on. Normally there isn't enough electricity getting to the skin to harm yourself but use a volt meter when testing instead of the fingers. Let me know if this has been any help for you and if you are unable to test yourself try and find a RV tech that has done this sort of thing before as running it down can take alot of time. Thanks, Bill
P.S. There is also something called and inverter but it makes 110 volt ac from 12 volt dc
