RV Repair: remounting damaged awning, lag bolts, lag screws

Question
In a heavy wind my awning arms separated and one end went over the roof. The top  mounting brackets pulled loose (lag bolts pulled out) can I through bolt these in the same location or do they need to be relocated? Coach is a 2005 Keystone Challenger 31RLB fifth wheel.

Answer
Hi Todd. You can reinstall it in the same place if the area is not too badly damaged. I would drill out the holes and install what is called a "nut zirt". It's like a rivet with a center that is threaded. You install them into the old mounting holes and then use a bolt to replace the lag screws. If you feel that is too much trouble, then seal the old mounting holes and relocate them over a few inches. Good Luck.
