RV Repair: dolphin 78 repair, lag bolts, step wells

Question
My door step on my 1978 dolphin punched out completly. How do  I repair this. Also it has not been run for about eight months. Do I need to drain gas and oil before starting? Thank you.  Randy

Door step wells are not all created equal, but most are junk.
They're not much more than a plywood "box" with one side missing. It is also mostly held on with screws that rust out in time as the wood soaks up water from a poorly sealed entry door.
There are not a lot of strict rules for this kind of repair.
We remove the whole step/stepwell and use the rough hole opening to measure for our new plywood "box". Then apply lots of screws, bolts and sealant. I like to use a couple pieces of 3/4 angle to beef up the bottom. And 5/16 lag bolts for the sides.
Put some mid-grade fuel in on top of the old fuel and replace the fuel filter/s, then change the engine oil and you should be good to go.
