RV Repair: roof repair, wood hi, roof leak

Question
I have a 2006 weekend warrior LE3305 fith wheel toyhauler. Upon doing a roof inspection I noticed that on the pass. rear of the unit where the fiberglass cap and the rubber roof meet the trim that holds all this down was popped up. Upon a closer look I found out that there is some rot in the wood structure that this trim is screwed into. I was wondering the best way to fix or replace that bad piece of wood?

Answer
Hi Eric.
There is not much you can do now without entering into a major repair. Almost every thing out there has or will have a roof leak at sometime. A small amount of wood deformation in that area won't hurt if you can  get it sealed up and keep it sealed.
Keeping any RV sealed is an on going issue. You'll need to check your roof, windows and doors at least twice a year to stay on top of the problem. Look closely,"holes like to hide".
To fix the "open" you need to seal under and over the problem area. Once dry apply a product like Dicor Lap Sealant into the opening ,then resecure the trim, you'll probably need to use new holes and or longer screws. Then put another layer on and you should be done.
