RV Repair: Trailer/tow vehicle cable, fleetwood prowler, prowler trailer

Question
QUESTION: I recently purchased an 02 Fleetwood Prowler trailer and onj
the trip back home found that I had no lights on the back of
the trailer but did have them on the sides.  After checking the cable hookup I found a spot approx. 1 1/2 ' back on the
cable from the connection point that had been frayed and two
or three wires inside the insulation were frayed.  How do I go about repairing/replacing this cable and what can I expect to run into in replacing the rear lights (badly corroded) at the same time?

Thanks.............

ANSWER: Hi Bob, I am not sure exactly were your wiring is damaged? Is it on the seven way tow plug? I need more details. Shawn.

QUESTION: Thanks for your response.  The damage is about 1 1/2' back
on the trailer side from where the male/female plugs connect.  Can I splice wires that are broken or would it be
better to just replace the entire cable.  I don't know how
that cable branches out to the other lights on the trailer.
Thanks

Answer
You can buy a new pig tail,(That's what we call the new complete   7 way plug.) That would look the best. To replace it. just crawl under and you will find  a 4'x4' J box. The wire color code will stay the same on a Fleetwood. You just rewire the new one to the trailer wiring.
You can also splice it and reconnect with butt connectors. It wont look as good as the new one would but it would work fine for a while.
