RV Repair: dim trailer brake lights, coleman tent trailer, jumper cables

Question
We haven't used our Coleman tent trailer in a few months. We are ready to go on a trip but all of a sudden the brake lights are dim. The signal lights work fine. The battery is old but would that affect the brake lights or is it an electrical problem? How can I fix it?

Answer
Hi Abby. Your running lights and signals all run off your tow vehicle. You can clean connections and ck for loose connections. Bad Ground is a common cause of this type of this type of problem. To ck for a bad ground... Use a pair of jumper cables  and hook one side to the frame of the truck and the other to the frame of the camper. If the lights improve then you have a bad ground connection. If there is no Improvement, then you have a bad wire somewhere.  Good Luck
