RV Repair: roof repair-wood rot-1994 jayco eagle 2, rubber roof sealant, repair wood rot

Question
Hi..I just bought a  1994 eagle 2 by Jayco with the awareness of an issue. The roof at the back of the trailer has rot around the edge...only the bottom 2 inches or so. It is located on the downward portion of the roof that meets the trailer body. The board appears fine above the 2 inch level and the rot seems isolated to the back except for the "entrance side" corner and about 6-8 inches up the entrance side board. I want to know how to replace this wood, how to take off and replace trim and seals etc. The channel for the "canvas" and the area that holds the tent screws seems solid...any help would be appreciated...oh as well...when I found the rot the price went down $500.00!   Thanks for the help.Kevin

Hi Keven. Thanks for the Question. Wow! Your in for a big job. Most of that wood will have to be replaced. You will most likely tare the rubber roof while removing it for access so I would plan on replacing it. Go to a local RV dealer and order all the supplies you will need. Rubber roof sealant. 10 tubes. (don't use silicone) Tacky tape. This will go under anything that you screw into the coach. Theres no easy way to do this. Try to preserve as much a possible. replace what you have to and don't cut corners. seal everything. Good Luck.
