RV Repair: steps not retracting to up position, chassis frame, towables

Question
When the door closes, you can hear the click as to show power is working.  Just had the wiring re-done.  Why won't the steps go up when closing the door?  We have a 1999 Mountinaire.

Answer
Hi Chery,
I'm not incredibly well versed in retracting stairs as these are generally found in motorhomes and my expertise is more centered on towables. I do know a few things though.
There is a control module board built into the stairs' circuitry that controls their position. This board is connected to the ignition(in most cases) and the door sensor. This board uses polarity reversing to control the direction of the motor.
There may be a possibility that this controller may be bad, or a problem in the ignition circuitry.
It could also be a bad motor.
Is it a possibility that the stairs are bent or corroded?
Check the power to the motor when they should be retracting. Do you have 12VDC from terminal to terminal? What about if you put one probe on the chassis frame and the other on each terminal?
