RV Repair: Water Damaged Cabinets, hot water heater, new cabinets

Question
Dave:

I have a 1994 Playmor, Premier LX, 29', 5th Wheel. Much to my dismay, I developed a leak in the middle of the night from my hot water heater.  The kitchen cabinets are made of particle board and so when the water hit the bottom framework it swelled up.  Now, none of the doors on the bottom will close and the woodgrain paper facade covering the particle board has split as well.

I'm a handy person but I don't know as I could tackle this problem.  Should I just get new cabinets?  If so, where would I get them?  Maybe I could just replace the wood at the bottom.  Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Cathy

Answer
Really hard for me to tell without looking at them.
If the particle board is "wrapped" with contact paper. your best bet would be to peel it or sand it off, and then paint your cabinets. You can't stain particle board.
Replace anything that needs to be replaced first, such as the bottom piece you are talking about.
On a unit that is over 12 years old, I wouldn't advise putting in new cabinets. You should be able to make them look nice by painting them.
I hope this helps some,
Dave
