RV Repair: Fleetwood Amer. Eagle Roof Leak?, rv supply store, roof sealer

Question
I am asking this for my Father.  My dad has a 1998 Fleetwood American Eagle with the 1 piece hard top.  In cleaning it this afternoon, I noticed that one of the cabinets in the very back had a wet shelf and the top of one of the cabinets next to the shower was wet in the ceiling.  My Dad has the mindset of "fix it yourself".  He has asked if I could find out if there is any one place that he should start trying to identify the source of the water?

Thank you in advance,
Mary Beth

Answer
First of all, someone needs to go onto the roof and look in the obvious places. These would be above the spots where you are finding the water, and around all of the vents and the edges. It could very well be that it has never been resealed during the time he has owned it. If that is the case, caulking and roof sealants dry up over time, and crack, causing leaks.
If there is nothing visible from above, have someone inside, while someone is spraying water on the roof on the outside. You may be able to tell this way.
But remember, the actual leak could be away from the places it is wet. The reason for that is that leaks can travel along the inside of the roof to other locations on the inside.
The best thing to do is to make sure that everything is completely sealed on the outside of the roof. You can go to an RV supply store or a large RV dealer and get some tubes of self-leveling roof sealer.
Good luck,
Dave
