RV Repair: 1978 class C Itasca - sewage holding tank, grey water tank, sewage holding tank

Question
The carpet on the outside of the bathroom was wet and smelled like sewage. My husband redid the valves and stuff at the base and it still leaks when we filled the tank. We think the tank is cracked. The grey water tank can just drop out but we cannot find any easy access to remove/replace the sewage tank. Do we have to remove the toilet/floor base to access it? or is there an easier way?

We also have a Dometic 3 way fridge that stopped cooling this yr. The back coils get hot but the fridge & freezer won't cool. We've tried placing ice on the inside to help it but there is nothing. Do we have to replace it?

Thanks so much.

Answer
You will have to remove the toilet to access the toilet flange in order to remove the waste tank.  These fittings usually go directly to the tank. If your carpet was wet, it is not likely it is directly from the tank since the carpet/ floor level is above the tank.  It sounds like you might have a flush assembly on the toilet or the toilet to flange seal bad.

Your fridge sounds like it has a bad cooling unit (the coils on the back).  The cooling unit can be rebuilt, it can be replaced with a rebuilt unit, you can replace the cooling unit with a new cooling unit, or you can replace the entire fridge.

All of these repairs are costly and in some cases, more cost effective to replace the fridge so that you then have a new factory warranty.
