Saturn Repair: 98 Saturn Sl Wiper issue, gm cars, saturn sl

Question
I have a interesting wiper issue.   The problem started out with when I started my car the wipers would automatically turn on automatically.  They would continue to run for a couple minutes and then shut off if the switch was in the off position.  This first issue only happened a couple of times and generally when it was colder outside.  The next symptom that happened was when I used my wipers they would only have a high or low speed(high when on high and low on all other settings) and also continue to run for a random number of cycles after being switched to the off position. This only happened for one day of driving.  The next time I used them they still had the same high low issue as above but just stayed stuck on until I pulled the fuse.  Now they still have the high low issue, run for a random number of intervals before shutting off, and newly also stop randomly while switched in any on position as well as not returning to the home position with the switch off or on.  I know at least one motor was replaced by the previous owner.  I have done as much reading as I have been able to find on the net about the subject and have ideas/ questions.  I read that GM  cars have a "pulse board" that can go bad and cause some of the symptoms.  I have not been able to find out it the saturn has such a board.  I am also wondering if it could be potentally the switch in the column itself causing the issue.  Now with the wipers getting stuck I am questioning if the motors are going out.  Please help.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Ben

It really sounds to me like it could be the switch.....but first make sure none of the wires are chaffed, mabe causing it to ground out. If none are found, then it could quite possibly be the switch. I believe thats a multi function switch, and if so you hace to take the steering wheel off to get that switch off, it's not to hard to change though.

let me know
