Question
1993 Saturn - egr, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, fuel filter have been replaced.  enging starts ok, idles rough, engine gets hot and put in gear, car stahls, wont start until cools off again.  Cant read codes as check engine light does not work, do not have diagnotic reader.

Answer
Hi Bonnie,
While I am not sure, it sounds a bit like Clogged Fuel Injectors or Fuel Line OR the computer is reporting a problem related to the fuel or ignition system.

So, even though the Check Engine Light isn't working, the chances are that the computer diagnostic reader's output is...if you have an AUTOZONE autoparts store in your area...they will read the codes for free...but if it won't start and run long enough to drive it there...I don't have an answer.  Unfortunately, this sounds like an auto repair shop will have to make the diagnostic check for you. Alternately, this is just a possibility, but the car could be suffering from too low a voltage from the battery / charging system which is to weak to keep the engine running (this has happened on at least one occassion for me).  It could be solved , if it were the problem, by replacing the cables from the battery.  The Ground wire, in particular, seems to corrode on the inside and prevent older Saturns from starting / running / charging.  I know it sounds simple but it is more likely than you may think. The fuel injectors could be cleaned by pouring in a full bottle of inexpensive (pay no more than $2.00!) fuel injector cleaner into a HALF TANK of gas.  Drivning it down to about an 1/8th tank and fill to a 1/2 tank and add another bottle  again.  Also, using spray carb cleaner sprayed into the intake air boot while the car is running will clean out much of the carbon deposits and build up which cause big problems like those your are describing.

Best of Luck!  Sorry i couldn't give you a definate answer.  Let me know how it worked out by leaving feedback comments here at the all experts website.
