Saturn Repair: Engine dies when gear is engaged, autozone auto parts, battery cables

Question
Hi Greg,
My car battery was dead.  I did not drive for 4-5 days.  I got a booster charge (jump-start), drove 3-4 miles and shut down the engine.  I needed a jump-start to start my engine again.  Now if I engaged the gear the engine would go dead.  I tried jump-start four times.  The engine would always stop running shortly after I engage the gear but keeps running for as long as 30 minutes (longer time not tried) at neutral gear.  I wonder if it is due to bad battery or something else!?

Answer
Hi Pradeep,
Sounds like Battery BUT it could easily be Battery Cables.  Yes, I know that sounds simple but it is very common on the Saturns...the cables corrode inside the plastic jacket.  The other possibility is the Alternator. If you have an AutoZone auto parts store bnear by, take it to them as they will test the car for FREE.

Bestof Luck,
