Saturn Repair: idler pulley replacement, saturn sl2, auto parts stores

Question
I need to replace the idler pulley on my 1996 Saturn SL2. I'm not a mechanic, but I have replaced other engine parts (including parts related to the serpentine belt) and have confidence that I can do it myself. Is this a tremendous undertaking? Should I take it to a mechanic?

Thanks.

Patrick

Answer
Hi Patrick,
Thanks for asking.  The Idler Pully on the SL2 engine is not too bad although I should warm you in advance that the space between the front of the ebngine (side facing the passenger side) and the Wheel well is VERY TIGHT. You'll be using mostly combination or box end wrenches to do the job as there is not much room for a socket.  There is no tricky things about doing it.  If it makes you feel more as ease, the Haynes Saturn Manual availble at Auto Parts stores is a big help with that.  I think it is about $13 - $15 at most stores (AutoZOne, etc)
Good Luck,
