Saturn Repair: CAR WILL NOT START, metro detroit michigan, saturn of southgate

Question
Got stuck on a flooded road and water got into the air filter. Car stopped immediately. Towed out of danger. Now car will not start. Replaced air filter. Not sure water got into motor.  When the key is turned we hear noice but the engine will not start. Any ideas. We have a 2000 Saturn L Series.

Answer
Hi John,
I can't offer much on this one. The 2000 L-Series is a different motor completely than I am familiar with BUT flooded cars that get into water SO DEEP as to make it to the Air Cleaner is A LOT OF WATER!  Sorry, I guess you already know that!
Water in an engine is BAD. you have to immediately drain and change the oil or damage occurs within hours.  the main reason, I think, is electrical, not mechanical. Water that reached the air cleaner also reached the alternator, electronic ignition module, plug wires, etc. So, it could be many things.  I called a local Saturn Dealer and asked then what you should do...they said call your local Saturn Dealer and ask...they will give you advice for free...they are pretty cool that way (Except Saturn of Southgate in Metro Detroit, Michigan!)
Sorry I couln't be more hrlpful.
