Saturn Repair: 94 sw4 windshield wiper noise/failure, splined shaft, windshield wiper

wipers stop in vertical position,noise occurs like gears
grinding.could it be the wiper motor is loose from the transmission?

Answer
While this question is out of my area of expertise, I am inclined to go with your guess OR the wipers are, I beleive, connected to the motor via a splined shaft that may have become partially striped. This could casue the intermitent operation.
