Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snapper carb

Question
I have a 9hp snapper mower.  Engine M/N 28b7021154-e1.  Carb is leaking gas into oil and wont start.  Whats the problem and fix.  Thank you

Answer
The carburetor inlet needle, part number 231855S, has leaked or is leaking.

You could just have dirt or water in the fuel system that is causing the leak, the float could be bad or the inlet needle seat could be bad.

To repair, you will need to remove, dis-assemble the carb and clean with compressed air from an air compressor.  You might have to replace any fault parts.

A second option is to install an inline fuel shut-off valve; cheaper, quicker and will not all gas to enter the oil as long as you turn the fuel shut-off valve OFF after you are done using the mower.

Regardless of your decision, you MUST change and refill with new OIL...changing the oil a couple of times is not a bad idea to make sure all the gas has been removed from the engine.
