Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler cv22s, safety switch, riding mower

Question
QUESTION: My kohler has a cv22s with smart spark ignition.  I believe both coils are bad.  Is it possible to convert it to a fixed ignition system or do I need to keep the smart spark ignition?

ANSWER: Did you download the service manual and ohm the coils to make sure they are bad?  See page 42.

Are you sure a safety switch is not causing the "no spark" issue?

QUESTION: I completely separated the engine from the tractor.  I have power to the modules from the SAM module. I also did the ohms test.  I will do it again just to make sure I did it correctly.

Answer
While we do find a bad coil every now and then it is pretty rare for both coils to fail at the same time unless 12 DC was applied to the coil(s).

On average, we probably sell less than a dozen coils...they rarely fail.  Most riding mower spark issues are caused by a safety switch or bad oil switch.
