Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower, trackless trains, harmful toxins

Question
hi, i recently learned that the childrens trackless trains are powered by lawnmowers.  we rode on one and it smelled horribly so we got off after a minute, my question is, what were we breathing?  (was it gasoline, carbon monoxide, or what)?  thanks for your time, gia

Answer
My guess is the engine was propane powered, not gas or coal.  Propane burning engines are used inside facilities, fork trucks, floor cleaners, zambonis, as they do not produce any harmful toxins, they just smell weird.

More and more vehicles, cars and trucks, starting to burn propane or natural gas as the fuel burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel.

Did the train or facility smell weird?
