Question
QUESTION: I have a JD RX75 rear engine rider with a 9hp kawa FC290U-B910 FC290u157319, The engine starts and runs fine the problem is when I try to engage the PTO for the deck or try to shift the transmission the engine dies. I have replaced the PTO interlock switch and a relay that controls the safety switches. The ony other switch is in the transmission that appears fine. The only other parts are the starter selenoid and the ignition switch. there are no other interlock switches on this unit. any sugestions?

ANSWER: Jerry
More Than likely you may have carburator problems, what may be happening is when the engine gets a load on it the carb is not providing enough fuel, does it just idle down try engaging and then dis engaging to see if the engine picks up speed. You may want to try cleaning the carburetor or getting a rebuild kit for it.

QUESTION: Carburetor is good it is electrical. when I by pass all the switches and start the engine I can engage the deck and the transmission and the engine runs fine no problem. when switches are in circuit the engine stops when I engage deck or transmission. carb has been cleaned and new parts installed.

Well Then the only other problem may be a short somewhere in the wiring interlock circuit causing it to ground out when the PTo is Engaged.Have you checked under the seat? There is a Interlock switch under there as well. There may be a switch for the parking brake, and the neutral switch there is around 3 different interlocks on most machines. You can by-pass some of the switches by unplugging them and inserting a jumper wire in the connector,as soon as you find the bad switch replace it and do not keep it by passed as you can cause yourself or someone else harm.
