Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L190, amp fuse, wire insulation

Question
QUESTION: Our mower was working and all of a sudden stopped completely.  After pushing to the garage we found a blown 20 amp fuse.  We replaced fuse and cleaned battery terminals.  The mower will not start now.  Where should we look first?

ANSWER: Did you replace the fuse and did the replacement fuse blow?

Have you charged the battery and taken it to you local auto store to have it tested?

A blown fuse indicated a short to ground but I would verify the batttery is good before doing anything else.

QUESTION: We had the battery tested and it is good, and the replacement fuse did blow.  What should we check next?

Answer
Shorted wire?  I would start by looking, visually, at all the wires, especially where they run through the chasis/frame or where they run behind part, aka, you can't see the wires.  These are the most common places we find the wire insulation wore through.  I found one last night, wire insulation was wore through where the wire was held in place by a metal clip.
