Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mistreated Honda Compressor, hp type, carburator

I have a compressor De Walt D55250 with a 4 HP Type 2 Honda 2HNXS engine.

The owner had old fuel left in it. I cleaned the fuel tank and the carburator.  The carbuter was full of bad rusting looking fuel.  I assembled everything and changed the plug.  The engine try to ratr when I spry staring fluid in tha carb throat. But then Dies after 2-3 seconds.  I also changed the oil and checked the oils sensor alert switch.  I think that the carb is bad.  What do you think?

Answer
I'd suspect a carb problem since it will start on starting fluid.  The priming trick tells you the igntion, compression and timing are all correct and functioning which just leaves the carb.


Were you able to soak the carb over night in carburetor cleaner?
