Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pto, clutch, ohms

Question
I have dyt4000 m#917.2736403
Was mowing and stopped to move something when I got back on and engaged the pto the clutch would not engage.after looking at it the clutch was trying to engage but would not.Got a new switch put it on and the pto engaged.after Mowing a while I disengaged the pto again to move something and when I went to engage the pto it would not engage.I looked at it again and with the pto knob pulled out to engage the blades the clutch was trying to engage and in the process the switch got hot and melted. What is my problem is the clutch bad and if so is it repairable or do I just need a new clutch?

Thanks
Mike

Sounds like the clutch is going bad, allot of sears mowers have this problem with the clutch enclosed is a diagnostic sheet that may help you. Check the Ohms on the clutch by using a multi Meter. You may have to enlarge the picture to view it better.
