Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda gvc 160 engine, orfice, valve clearance

Question
QUESTION: My pressure washer starts up and runs with the manual choke pulled out.  After it warms up I push the choke in and it immediately dies out.  It won't run with the choke off.  I cleaned out the carb. and it still runs the same.  Any suggestions.????

ANSWER: Did you blow compressed air from an air compressor through all the carb orfices?

I would clean the carb again.  Sometimes we have to clean carbs 2-3 times to get them to work.

Are there any intake gaskets/o-rings leaking?

Was the carb  very dirty when you cleaned it?

QUESTION: I cleaned my carb. twice.  I cleaned out the main jet that has a pinhole orfice.  Is they any portions in the carb. that you cannot get to ????  Why would the engine only run when it is full choke.?????

Answer
There are very few spots that you can't get to with compressed air.  With the choke on the carb is providing a very rich air/fuel mix which means the engine is running lean, either not getting enough fuel or gettting too much air.

Too much air could be caused by a leak in the intake system.  Not enough fuel is almost always a carb issue.

Was there any dirt or water in the carb when you cleaned it?  Is the carb butterfly moving freely?  Have you removed the valve cover and checked the valve clearance?
