Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Oli leak, john deere lawn tractor, john deere lawn

Question
I have a John Deere Lawn Tractor with a model FC420V engine.   While the tractor is setting between mowing, it leaks oil on top of the mower deck and the pulls under the mower chassis.  I assume it leaks during mowing also.  It does not smoke while mowing.  What could the problem be and how much trouble is it to repair?

Sounds like you may have a bad main shaft seal is it leaking on the main pulley? That is a sign for a oil seal wearing out. Yes it is a big job as you will have to pull the engine out of the mower and then split the case,& remove the crank shaft, bearing and the seal. You will need to install this with a new seal and a special tool to seat the new seal. One other place it may leak is from the crank case seal.Clean the mower, engine and the deck then when you run it you can see where it may be leaking from.
