Nissan Repair: Re Nissan Sani 3.0 litres D/C, nose dives, rotary vane

Question
QUESTION: Engine runs fine, but keeps stalling once you lift the foot off the accelerator. Cleaned the fuel filter, but still problem persists. Runs fine and then suddenly nose-dives. Seems its not getting petrol>

Please help

Thanks

Etienne

ANSWER: Etienne,

I would look at the idle dashpot on the throttle body.  That is the dampner that keeps the car from stalling when you let your foot off the gas.

Could it be that the petrol pump is faulty? The Nissan has a in-tank pump. Could I by-pass this and install a high pressurepump in the feul line somewhere?
Thanks again

Answer
Etienne,

If the car has an in tank gas pump and is fuel injected you would need to remove the old pump in the tank to open up the restriction of it being defective.  The pump is a rotary vane design and if it is failing it would block flow, even with an external pump.  I would first check the fuel pressure to see if it is falling off on pressure before to verify the exact issue.  Email me back and lets find out for sure.
