Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Not firing, sears craftsman, spark plug

I have a sears craftsman walk behind self-propelled mower model #917378550 that is not firing. It started then ran for 20 seconds before stopping 5Xs, determined it was carburetor. Replaced carb; now the engine will not start,spark plug fires intermittent or not at all.

Did you replace the spark plug?  Is the engine shut-off cable stretched...seen this on a couple of models.

A quick method to test the ignition module is to dis-connect the small wire connected to the ignition module and then check for spark.  If you have spark with the small wire dis-connected then the ignition is usually good.
