Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD mdl#13au694h088 safety switches, lever arm, key switch

Question
My lawnmower refuses to start. There is no response to the ignition switch. I suspect a safety switch, but can't locate them on the machine. The seat switch is easy, but the brake/clutch and the pto switches I haven't been able to locate. I am disabled, so getting under the thing is a problem. I would like to know the locations of these switches, so I can test them. Also, I would appreciate a system of test in case these both test good. My tractor, unfortunately, came with the wrong manual, and nothing matches, including the wiring diagram. All of the wiring color code is different, and the parts don't match up. I repaired traffic system control equipment for 20 years, and programmed same, so I have some experience in troubleshooting, if I have the right schematic.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Unfortunately mower manufactures rarely provide good schematics...I have searched for years for good schematics.

The transmission switch is usually mounted near the clutch idler arm just under the main mower frame.  Look for the idler arm pivot and you should find a switch nearby.

The deck engagement switch is also usually located under the chassis, near the blade engagement lever arm.

Another technique I use when I can't find the switches it just follow the wires from the key switch.  Works well and I am pretty quick at it now.

Do you have a friend that can help locate and test the switches?  Did you check the fuse?  Did you check the small starting solenoid wire when trying to start the mower?  The small solenoid wire should have 12 volts DC when all the safety switches are in the start position and you turn the key to the start position.  If there is no power then either the fuse is blown or one of the safety switches is either keeping the circuit open.

Let me know if this helps.
